Lando Norris Joins Arrow McLaren SP for Autonation INDYCAR Challenge at COTA
In November at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, Arrow McLaren SP drivers Pato O’Ward and Oliver Askew met McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris for the first time, during a visit to the United States Grand Prix. Nobody could have predicted that less than six months later, the group would reunite at COTA, despite being on different continents, for the Autonation INDYCAR Challenge on iRacing on Saturday, April 25.
Norris joins Arrow McLaren SP as a provisional driver for Round 5 of the virtual INDYCAR Challenge, adding to the exciting lineup of O’Ward, Askew, and AMSP driver advisor Robert Wickens. He will drive the No. 04 Arrow McLaren SP car, which will see his Formula One livery translate over to an Indy car for the first time.
This exciting crossover all started with an Instagram Live on Tuesday, when Lando joined the AMSP team to talk about COTA and his experience there, including a seventh-place finish in last year’s United States Grand Prix. The conversation turned to sim racing, when Pato promised Lando he would try his hardest to find him a spot in the field on Saturday.
The rest played out on Twitter, with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES eventually stepping in to officially invite Lando to this weekend’s race.
The action starts on Wednesday, April 22 with all four Arrow McLaren SP drivers taking part in a test to get Norris up to speed. The session will be aired live on Twitch.
Cheer on all four drivers on Saturday at 2:30PM ET on NBCSN, and make sure to join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #iRaceforAMSP!
